Student voters flocked to the polls at Springfield Middle this morning to cast their ballot for the SC Junior Book Award nominee they thought deserved the title of "winner." The results are now in, and boy was it a close race! With a three-way tie, our fan favorites were:
Mrs. Keefer has submitted all of the votes cast today and they will be tallied along with the votes of students from across the state. Voters from today's election will be invited to a celebration party in March when we'll all learn which book wins the title of 2014-15 SC Junior Book Award Winner. We can't wait to see which book is named... stay tuned! Looking for fast-paced, action-packed books? Check out the new iRead display in the fiction section. You're bound to find something that keeps your attention with this lot! So, what do you read? Some of our fantastic book club members have been hard at work creating a banner to represent SC 2014-15 Junior Book Award nominee, Shadow and Bone by Leigh Bardugo. This banner will soon be on its way to represent Springfield Middle at the 40th Annual South Carolina Association of School Librarians conference in Columbia. It will hang along side banners from schools around the state. Check back to see photos of the finished banner! It's not too late to qualify for Monday's SC Book Award voting. Read at least 4 of the SC Book Award nominees and fill out our online form to be invited to vote when the polls open Monday. If you think you should have qualified but haven't yet received an invitation, please see Mrs. Keefer. Those who have qualified can stop by the media center any time on Monday, February 23rd to cast their vote. All voters will be invited to celebrate as we unveil the winners in March! Great books can help us learn more about those who are different from us. Check out the new display in the fiction section for a few suggestions on great reads about characters who may live very different lives than your own. These are all great selections for any student who would like to participate in our March book club meeting, but anyone is welcome to check out the books on display! If you'd like additional suggestions, or if you'd like to recommend a book for the display, please see Mrs. Keefer. 6th, 7th, and 8th grade book club members enjoyed sharing their "sweet reads" with one another today. Members had been challenged to read an award winning book and it was great to learn about so many wonderful books and authors! A few of the titles our members read this time around include:
You've heard of look-alikes, but have you ever heard of read-alikes? Stop by the circulation desk to see suggestions on a few hidden gems in our library that are similar to some of your favorite books. You're always welcome (and encouraged!) to check out any of the books on display - Mrs. Keefer will be changing these "read-alike" suggestions out often. Feel free to also make any suggestions of your own!
You may have seen a few new things popping up in the SMS media center over the past few days!
Book Suggestions Have a favorite book, author, or topic you'd like to see on our shelves? Look for the polka dotted box on Mrs. Keefer's desk and leave us a note! You can also submit suggestions online using this suggestion form. Although we can't guarantee the purchase of any specific item, your recommendations are always taken into consideration! Be sure to give as much information (title, author, etc.) as possible. When Are You Due? Wondering when your books are due? The new chalkboard hanging in the front window will give you a daily reminder of when to get those books back. Box of Awesome Returning a book you loved? Take a second to recommend it to a classmate! The box of awesome is the place to go to find and recommend awesome books to one another. Don't be shy about giving a book in the box a try - anything on display is always available for checkout! |
