We couldn't let the month of September slip by without holding our monthly TLC meeting! TLC members Addy, Gabby, Carly, and Reese planned a fabulous football themed meeting for us, full of activities, snacks, and fun decorations. We were able to celebrate some of our success, recognize the hard work that has gone into the many student created displays, discuss the upcoming events for October, and brainstorm new volunteer opportunities. Don't forget to sign up for the TLC Remind if you haven't already, and come back early next week to pick your volunteer job for October!
We had our very first Maker Monday of the year today, planned entirely by two of our 6th grade TLC members. Students were able to stop by at lunch and work with washi tape to create fun, unique supplies. Pencils and bookmarks were popular options! We can't wait for our next Maker Monday!
Sixth graders in Mr. Mack's chorus class were challenged today! Using the musical concepts they've been reviewing in class, students worked hard to solve the clues and unlock all six "Musical Mayhem" locks before time ran out. Each class was able to find success with only seconds left - it was a nail biter! This fun BreakoutEDU game was created by our library intern, Ms. Sigurdson.
Eighth graders in Ms. Parra's Social Studies class have been hard at work creating new products and working on marketing pitches for their ideas. Some students even made use of our Makerspace to help bring those ideas to life! Using Tinkercad and our MakerBot 3D printer, students were able to create prototypes of their inventions to include in their presentations. Students have designed and printed prototypes that range from voice activated pens to a hairbrush that dispenses water as you comb your hair. It was great seeing these ideas turn into tangible products!
We are so excited to start Tween Library Council back up this school year! We held our first interest meeting today during each lunch and had 108 excited students attend. It was great to see so many new faces and hear all of their amazing ideas! TLC will run a bit differently than it has in the past, with students choosing jobs of a job board throughout the month rather than working in committees. We hope this will make the volunteer work more equitable and allow everyone a chance to participate. For those who attended today, please do not forget to sign up for our Remind by Tuesday morning. You are welcome to stop by the job board anytime and please feel free to start working on the task you chose as soon as you would like. Job Forms are due via Google Forms before our September meeting. Please see Mrs. Keefer with any questions!
