We were so honored to host NY Times bestselling author Alan Gratz today! Mr. Gratz's visit helped us kick off our school wide reading of his latest novel, Refugee. Students were captivated as they learned more about the background of Refugee, the history behind the story, and the inspiration that led to this powerful novel. We can't wait to start reading tomorrow!
We are kicking off this year's school wide book celebration with a visit from best-selling author, Alan Gratz. The purpose of this program is to further our mission of building a culture of literacy. During homeroom, all homeroom teachers will begin their day reading aloud the book Refugee by Alan Gratz. Our theme for the year is One Book, One School, One Year ... A Million Chances to Make a Difference. Throughout the course of the year, teachers across all disciplines will find ways to make their content area relevant through problem solving and making a difference in the lives of others, our community, and the world. We can't wait to see what happens when we work together to solve problems! Please feel free to purchase a copy of the book and read along with us.
Our rising 6th graders had a blast trying to breakout of their mystery boxes this morning at Mustang Training Camp! Using clues and information about a typical day in the life of a 6th grader, our students had to communicate and collaborate to unlock all 5 locks and discover the prize inside their team's box. Their perseverance and problem solving was impressive! We're looking forward to Day 2 of camp!
