The Tween Library Council had a great time at our March meeting! Since we held it on St. Patrick's Day, we decided to celebrate with Leprechaun Trail Mix and worked on limericks (just in time for Poetry month in April!) based on the books we read. We have some very talented poets in our midst! We also spoke about our upcoming Book Fair, the SC Read-In, and Book Con coming in May. There are a lot of exciting things on the horizon! We are super proud of the Tween Library Council members who worked diligently on our South Carolina Junior Book Award Banner over the past several weeks. It was just announced late last week that the SMS banner took home 3rd place in the JBA category - what a great honor for their hard work!
March Book Madness is back! Last year’s 7th graders had a great time seeding their favorite books, filling out their brackets, and guessing the big winners along with other middle school students across the globe. This year we’re opening it up for all SMS students to participate. Simply stop by the media center starting this MONDAY and pick up your bracket sheet. Return your completed bracket to Mrs. Keefer no later than March 9th to be eligible to vote in each round (your votes are tallied along with students from around the world!) and track your progress. There are great prizes for the most accurate brackets and your team will earn a point for each student who completes a bracket! Don’t forget to follow along with the contest throughout March by taking a look at current bracket standings shown on the display across from the media center. Teen Tech Week returns to SMS next week and we could not be more excited! This year’s theme is “Create it at your library” and we will be creating and making all week long! Libraries are not only great places to go for information and good reads, but also a place that encourages innovation. Each day at lunch, we’ll offer a different activity in the media center. Students will still need their agendas to sign in … we look forward to seeing you!
