Ready for Summer Reading? |
2020-21 SC Junior Book Award Nominees |
Don’t let summer slump set in! Keep your mind sharp with some exciting books that you won’t be able to put down!
All rising 6th, 7th, and 8th graders are required to read a minimum of 20 minutes, 3 times a week, for at least 8 weeks (more is encouraged!). We highly encourage that your books be chosen from the 2020-21 SC Junior Book Award Nominee List. Completed forms are due by August 31st. Summer Reading Tracking FormAll rising 6th-8th graders must track their minutes and page numbers on the tracking chart (feel free to make additional pages, entries, or copies as needed), and choose one of the reflection prompts provided at the end of this packet to reflect on your thinking after every 3 sessions. Since the goal is to have our students reading throughout the summer, this assignment should not be started until the school year has ended. Students have between June 2 and August 31 to complete this log. This form can be completed electronically on Google Classroom using the Google Classroom Code nk2erc5. Students may also opt to complete this form by hand and turn a paper copy in to their Language Arts teacher on the first day of the new school year. Not sure which to read? Check out book reviews, book trailers, author websites, audio excerpts, and more via StudySC. Help your child tackle summer reading! The research is clear. Students that do not read over the
summer are more likely to experience learning loss. That learning loss is cumulative and has long term effects. Springfield Middle School believes that students are more likely to enjoy reading when they are offered a choice of current, high interest texts. We hope that summer reading will be an important and enjoyable part of your summer. Please check out this handout for some great, easy tips on how to help your child find a love of reading this summer!
