We had an absolutely amazing day together at the ASC Greenway to celebrate our first annual FMSD Read-In! 211 students from all 5 middle schools and both district high schools came out to the Comporium Amphitheater to celebrate libraries, poetry, and a love of reading. We began the morning with a roll call and welcome, followed by talks from Anne Springs Close and authors Tara Leubbe and Amalie Jahns. Since April is National Poetry Month, students also had a chance to throw the Catchbox microphone around and share both original and inspirational poetry. Following our poetry slam, students chose one of four breakout sessions: a Found Poem Hike, Blackout Poetry, Book Talks, or Dr. Seuss Yoga. All four were amazing! The rest of the afternoon was spent reading in the sunshine, visiting with our authors and the York County Public Library, and enjoying a picnic lunch with Kona Ice. All in all, it was a beautiful day!
