Library Policies & ProceduresHours of Operation & Visitation Policies
The SMS Media Center is open from 7:45-3:10 daily. Students are welcome to visit the media center to work on class work, read or check out a book, work on the computer, or collaborate with friends. You must have your agenda with you to visit the media center. Upon entering the media center, students must sign in using the barcode in their agenda at the circulation desk, unless they are visiting with a class. This helps to hold students accountable and provides a record of student activity and media center usage. Although students are welcome (and encouraged!) to check out and return materials at any time, all students are scheduled to visit the library at least once every other week with their Language Arts class. Mrs. Keefer also collaborates with teachers on various projects and lessons. Library Expectations One of the main goals of the SMS media center is to provide an inviting learning commons atmosphere that encourages collaboration, inquiry, and discovery. That being said, students are expected to maintain and exhibit good character and behavior while in the library. We ask that students be respectful of others and of the materials during their visit. Please keep in mind that food and drink are not allowed in the media center for the safety of our materials. Student Check-Out Policy Students are welcome to check out materials as frequently as they would like. Books, eBooks, and audiobooks are all available for two week checkout periods. Magazines are available for checkout overnight. After that time, students are welcome to renew their items, so long as no other student has put the item on hold. Students are also able to renew items themselves using their Destiny Quest login. Lost or Damaged Books In an effort to encourage responsibility and ensure that items in the media center are able to be enjoyed by everyone, students will be held accountable for any lost or damaged books/materials. Replacement cost will vary depending on the cost of the book. Students with overdue or unpaid, missing items may be limited in their ability to check out new materials. Mrs. Keefer will distribute overdue and fine notices to homeroom teachers on a periodic basis. Students can check the status of items checked out under their account at any time using their Destiny Quest login, and are always welcome to check with Mrs. Keefer. |
